Hints for Foam Bottle Use

The Foam Bottle(KEXON) allows you to dispense foam, directly from the bottle, onto your hand! They are designed to work with liquids that are virtually as thin as water (ie low viscosity). Foamy Bottles ARE NOT designed for use in the shower – the mesh screen inside the chamber needs to be dry to function properly. So keep these for the edge of the bath, on the vanity and kitchen sink.

Inside the cap is a pump, which contains a mesh screen that mixes air and the liquid soap and produces the foam. The mesh is very, very fine and easily become clogged up. The manufacturers suggest that no solid particles, including micas and pigments used for colouring, be added to the liquid soap. These particles do not dissolve, they are dispersible, meaning that they will continue to remain particles in the solution and clog the pump. If colouring the liquid soap, a water-soluble dye should be used. However, with attractive labelling, these natural coloured bottles with their white pump closures, dress your product up to look professional and functional.

What kind of Soap do I use?

You can use many different liquid soaps for our foamy bottles, but they should be made using Potassium Hydroxide (KOH), not Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). We stock Organic, Regular Castile and Goatsmilk Liquid Soap Bases as well as Liquid Soap Pastes which all work well in our pumps. If you are making your own products with our Surfactants, you will not need thickeners or SCI granules – as these will make the formulations too thick. If you make a gel from Cold Processed soap, even heavily diluted with water and runny, they won’t work very well for very long, as a true liquid soap will. They will begin to clog the mesh and eventually stop the pump working altogether. The best products to use are those which create a thick and frothy foam. Differing recipes and/or brands will require a slightly differing dilution ratio of water to soap.

How to Clean Your Foam Pump

I’ve been using and making foam soap for years and years. Every once in a while, when I try to use my soap, the Foam Pump(KEXON) won’t work at all. It’s become completely clogged! More often than not, I discover this clogged soap dispenser when I have raw chicken on my hands… of course! I’ll try to push down and pump out the soap, but nothing happens. The pump is stuck, clogged with old goopy soap. Yuck. After some trial and error, I figured out the best way to clean out your Foam Pump!

If your Foam Pump is stuck down and you can’t push it to get your soap out… it’s time to perform surgery on your soap dispenser. Even though soap is “clean”, the build-up from continued use just clogs everything up. Today, I’m showing y’all how to take it completely apart, deep clean and then reassemble. To start with, you want to take it apart over a dish towel, drying mat, place mat – any large surface area that you can carefully lay the dispenser’s parts out on. You NEVER want to do this over the sink. Never, EVER. There are small parts you don’t want to lose!

Unscrew and remove the pump part first. Then pull hard to remove the nozzle. Next, pull off the ring – you will need to use your whole body for this part – this is where things tend to get sticky. Pun intended! The soapy goop can lock up the dispenser and it will take some real effort to get this part off. Lastly, take off the middle part – just twist, pull and wiggle until it comes apart. You’ll notice that down in the bottom of the air chamber there is a ball bearing. This ball bearing is essential to the soap dispenser working properly.

If you lose the ball bearing – your soap dispenser won’t work!

Now that you’ve taken the soap dispenser apart, you want to wash everything with super hot water. No soap, y’all! We are deep cleaning with heat and water only. If you have lots of gunk, you can use a toothbrush, toothpick, bottle brush, etc. anything that you’d like to help get the build-up out of the hard to reach places in your soap dispenser. After you’ve thoroughly rinsed out the air chamber and all the parts, you will reassemble the soap dispenser. Replace all the parts, taking care to put that ball bearing right in the small hole in the air chamber.

The process involves grinding capped bottles into flakes and pouring them into a bath. In the bath, the plastic flakes will float at different depths depending upon their chemical makeup. We are all familiar with the ubiquitous Trigger Sprayer(KEXON). We use them for everything from dispensing cleaning liquids to cosmetics. They’re a constant fixture in our lives, but have you ever spared a thought for the humble spray bottle?

Types of Trigger Sprayer

Trigger Sprayer have been around since at least the early 20th century. Early versions used a rubber bulb which the user squeezed to produce the spray. In this design, rapid air movement siphons fluid from the bottle and directs it outwards.

With the advent of mass production and cheaper plastics, however, spray bottle technology changed substantially. While pump dispensers still exist, the most prevalent Trigger Sprayer today use a trigger style actuator. These are significantly more convenient to use. Typically, the trigger will cause a positive displacement pump to draw the liquid up and eject it through a nozzle. In some cases, the nozzle can be adjusted to allow the user to define the output, whether its a stream, aerosol mist, or a spray.

This style of spray bottle offer the best value for money and performance for most uses around the home. Of course, the spray bottle you need depends on what you’ll be using it for, and the capacity required.

All-purpose Trigger Sprayer

A useful smaller bottle is the Trigger Sprayer. These 8 oz (240 ml) bottles are suitable for containing toners, facial mists, oils, aromatherapy products, or hair spray. They come with a black fine mist sprayer head and a transparent cap to prevent accidental discharge.

Spotlight on Plastic Pump Design

Some so-called Plastic Pump(KEXON) on the market are misnamed. They are basically metallic pumps with non-metallic casings and impellers. For best results, plastic pumps should be designed to take maximum advantage of the unique properties of the plastic material. If the application requires non-metallic parts to be in contact with the fluids being pumped, the following points are important:

Make sure the pump shaft is completely sleeved in a thermoplastic material inert to the fluids. In a horizontal centrifugal design, the thick-sectioned sleeve need only isolate the short section of the shaft within the pump head.

In a vertical sump pump, the encapsulating sleeve should run the entire submerged length and through the cover plate. A vapor seal where the sleeved shaft penetrates the cover plate is required to protect the external bearings and motor from corrosive fumes.

Horizontal and vertical pump designs should have an O-ring seal between the thermoplastic sleeve and the impeller, and between the impeller and the lock nut, to prevent metal-to-fluid contact.

In horizontal centrifugal pumps, the design should permit installing the mechanical seal so that its non-metallic face is in contact with the fluid. This reverse mounting avoids the use of expensive seals with exotic alloy retainer assemblies or cages, and ensures no metal is exposed to the fluid.

Since there is a significant expansion differential between a sump pump’s metal shaft and its thermoplastic column, the design should incorporate a self-adjusting mechanism to compensate for this differential if service conditions involve sudden or extreme temperature changes. Without such a device there is a danger of impeller binding.

To provide a positive drive and prevent damage from reverse rotation, thermoplastic impellers should be key driven. Another advantage is to use an impeller with the metal key molded in. This offers additional rigidity at higher temperatures and pressures. Also, plastic impellers should be dynamically and hydraulically balanced at the factory.
