However, they severed their connections in 2012.
The Calvary Baptist Church was founded on 2 June 1862 by Amos Kendall. He donated about $90,000 toward construction of the building. The church opened its doors in June 1866, around the time Kendall was made a senior deacon in the church. But within 18 months the building was consumed by fire. Because the building was just insured for $50,000, Kendall willingly donated another $15,000 to rebuild it.
During 1983, the Calvary Baptist Church founded the Calvary Women’s Services. It was the first women’s homeless shelter in Washington Metro area. The aim of the Calvary Women’s Services is to transform the lives of homeless women in Washington, D.C. through health, employment programs, education, and housing. In addition, they ensure women have access to the proper trauma-informed healthcare and educational support they need to take positive steps toward independence. The Calvary Women’s Services programs included daily addiction recovery meetings personalized case management, life skills and education opportunities, job training, on-site therapy transitional and permanent housing, and health and wellness services.

You can visit Calvary Baptist Church and listen to their sermons. They have small groups meeting during the weekend and the Sunday schools hours begin at 9:45 am.
